Inclusivity in TTRPGs is essential for creating a fun, respectful environment that encourages collaboration and creativity. By their very nature, TTRPGs bring people together to share stories; ensuring that all players feel welcome and comfortable is key to a meaningful, immersive experience.

Diversity & Representation

A core component of inclusivity is diversity and representation — introducing characters and NPCs from a wide range of backgrounds, genders, orientations, abilities, and cultures. By reflecting the richness of the real world, players can more easily see themselves and their experiences in the game, forging deeper connections to the story and each other.

A Safe Table

Equally important is fostering a safe, comfortable environment for everyone at the table. That means encouraging open dialogue, treating each other with respect, and staying sensitive to the unique perspectives of every participant. We also recommend using safety tools — like a session zero, lines and veils, or an X-card — so players have an easy way to communicate boundaries and maintain a respectful atmosphere. A Game Master is always growing in this role, learning and adapting to the needs of their players.

Inclusivity goes beyond checking boxes for representation; it's also about building a welcoming and supportive community. This includes listening to all voices, considering different viewpoints, and remaining open to adjusting rules or scenarios when necessary so that every player feels engaged and respected.
